While we were looking for a place to live we stayed with some friends of my family, Pete and Donna. Very, very nice people. We were very comfortable in their home, we didn’t want to leave.
Here’s where the new place is, if you want to come in for some tea and crumpets or danishes:
Our Apartment
We’re at the corner of ingles and victoria, right next to the bottom right tip of the triangle. We live upstairs from a Peter’s Pizza (Peter is our landlord!!!!! Or maybe his son, whatever, his name is Peter and that’s all I care about).
It’s a 1.4km for me to walk to work. The area is very nice (in the posh, upscale south side of Halifax). So no worries about gas, shoveling or driving. There is a superstore about 0.3km away and a sobeys about 0.2km away from our place (which we didn’t even know when we got it).
The guy wanted $1100 for the place but we talked him down to $1000, heat and hot water included (cause Hollywood’s a nifty negotiator, we played good cop/bad cop though Hollywood didn’t know it). We looked at a bunch of places that sucked before finding this one. At one of the places an 88 year old man had to walk an hour and a half to meet us. Then he was so worried that we wouldn’t take it and wanted us to immediately sign the lease and started knocking down the price to make sure that he didn’t have to walk down there ever again. I refused to sign, the bedrooms were so small we wouldn’t even be able to get a bed in there. After we didn’t take the place we gave him a ride home (and it was FAR). Crazy old man. He was as spry as a 65 year old though.
Moving cost us about $3000 and the company is pitching in $2500. We’re anxiously awaiting that money to dig us out of the hole.
I’ll write more later to try to catch up on current events.
