I renamed the blog since it no longer has anything to do with hollywood whatsoever, since like, we’s brokt up and all. Doubt this’ll be the permanent name. Will maybe change the url but keep this one as a redirect to the new one, whenever it’s made.
I should keep a running collection of stupid things indians say. At work (which I don’t usually talk about) we have some guys in india who are our counterparts, they work throughout the night (their day) and we work throughout the day (our hell). This is just a list of some of the stupid things they say pretty much on a daily basis, no matter how many times I tell them they sound stupid.
“Please do the needful.”
Translation: check this out for me?
“I have a doubt.”
Translation: I don’t know how this works.
“Few doubts…”
Translation: I really don’t know how this works.
“Can you please tell me know how exactally has to be done.”
Translation: what needs to be done?
“hamm…”
Translation: hmm
“Please suggest us.”
Translation: Can you please let us know what to do for this?
They also CAN NOT begin a conversation with you if they have not spoken to you within 15 minutes unless they say “hi pender” then wait for me to say “hi” then they say “how are you?” then wait for me to reply with “fine, how are you?” then they say “fine” then they tell me that we have some prod servers down. So no matter how much the sky is falling they can’t get me involved unless they know I’m fine and that I know they’re also fine. Stupid preamble.
At least this stuff gives me a frustrated chuckle every day..
This is pretty cool, I didn’t even know they were making them: Intel’s made a quad core CPU (I can’t link directly to the quad core site, it’s flash or somethign stupid). Which basically means you have 4 computers in one. Unfortunately the chip costs $1300+tax (at the usual place I buy computer parts). Even dual core cpu’s are only about $250+tax, which means for the equivalent cost of 10 cpus, you can get 4 cpus on 1 chip. What a deal!
I hope their marketing engine is good. I would want one, but of course then I’d need a motherboard that could support it and 4 gigs of ram to make it worthwhile, then probably two video cards connected via SLI to make gaming worthwhile. Then of course I’d need a 62″ HDTV plasma tv that I could hook the computer up to and use as a monitor. Then I’d need a time machine to go back to last week and buy the winning lottery tickets to ensure I could pay for it all, including the time machine.
Our production database server crashed yesterday morning. I’ve been working on it pretty much constantly ever since. I did get to sleep at around 1:30 last night, that was nifty. Sux when computers break. I think I would be happier being a crazed alchemist.
I get $2000-3000 per employee hired. I guess $3000 if you’re cool and $2000 if you’re drool. Tell your friends, the ones that don’t hate you, about it too. For shits n giggles I’ve uploaded my resume as an example. Recruiters really seem to like the bottom boxes with my experience on it. This resume’s over a year old now.
The site’s been moved off penderwood.servehttp.com/penderwood onto penderwood.dreamhosters.com. You probably went to your normal site and got here by conventional means, but that ain’t good enough anymore!! It probably looks like http://penderwood.dreamhosters.com/penderwood in your bar but you no longer need the /penderwood at the end there.
The new server is neat. The installation was fairly smooth. I’m currently in the process of uploaded all the pictures and videos and stuff to the server, will probably take a few hours.
THANKS jody for letting me use the new server! We can now turn off the 3rd puter at night and maybe save a few pennies in electricity. Hurray!
The only thing I’ve noticed with the upgrades is that there’s this ugly white bar in the top right corner. It’s smelly and I’ll likely have nightmares about it tonight.
The upgrade from 1.2 -> 1.5 really sucked.. 1.5 introduced “themes” and broke the crap out of the way the site looked (it turned uglier.. hard to believe, but it’s true). It took a couple of hours to fix it all back up, mostly due to the fact that I just totally forgot just how much customizing I did.
Crap, I just noticed the text on the right sidebar is now all lowercase.. Something else to fix tomorrow.
The upgrade from 1.5 -> 2.0.2 was ridiculously easy. Too easy. Probably half the site’s broke and I don’t even know it!
I’ve also installed some spam blocker that everyone seems to be using, I’m sure it’s just marvy. Hopefully that’ll help prevent the devil from creepin’ onto the site every day or two.
I’ll probably be moving the site from my 3rd puter onto a real server over the weekend, courtesy of mr. j0dy (of this site’s comments fame… and possibly, to a lesser extent, Steel White Table). You’ll know it’s happend when this site ain’t here anymore and is replaced with a “THIS DOMAIN HAS MOVED, UPDATE YOUR 16 BOOKMARKS WITH THE NEW SITE, YOU MAY BE REDIRECTED AT SOME POINT, WHENEVER I GET AROUND TO IT, MAYBE.” site.
Welp, another google invention that I think is just marvy is the Google Calendar. One day before it came out I had actually done a search for online calendars and found either crappy free ones, or for pay ones. Coincidence? I think not. They got hard to work and built it for me and I must say, thanks Mr. Google, it’s wonderful!
The calendar sharing stuff is cool. You can overlay your calendar with a buddy’s calendar and compare who has the bigger calendar, with more friends and more things to do, proving your worth as a socialite. The only bug I’ve seen so far is when someone else comments on your calendar, it shows your own name as the commenter. Please get busy and fix that, Mr. Google. Thanks.
They also have event notifications like a popup, email, or even a cell phone message. You can also import from other calendar formats, iCal or CSV (MS outlook) formats, which is neat if you have a previous (inferior) calendar utility you can quickly move over.
I’m planning to use this thing daily. Maybe with notes and comments it will replace my little notebook tingy that I use at work for writing down how to fix problems and stuff that happen on particular days. I’ll write it into my calendar, making use of Google’s search results (which is a might bit faster than me skimming through pages of my book, by inaccurate approximation of 15-18 nano-seconds time savings).
The possibilities aren’t endless!!! but who cares.
I just found out that Shadowbane went free. It was a pay-to-play Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, cost $10 to buy and $12.95 monthly fee USD. Apparently they’re relocating their staff, so it’s not really certain if this game will be out there for a while, but you could probably get a good month or three out of it, free. From everything I read and heard, it’s a pretty decent game. Wasn’t enough to get me into it, but if you’re bored of pirating games then getting bored of said games rather quickly, you could check it out, legally.
