Yesterday Hollywood and I went to see the Rolling Stones concert here in Moncton. It was nifty!
We woke up at 8am to clean and get ready to go to the yearly family reunion in Sussex. We had to clean because Alysson and her cousin Julie were coming over to get a ride down to the mall so they could get a shuttle to the stones concert. After we dropped them off we headed for the reunion. It was a good time, lots of old people but I didn’t have to even smell one of them. We mostly just ate, hung out of the swings with everyone’s kids, then went back to Moncton.
We arrived at Moncton and dropped the car off at the Champlain Mall. We got a bus to the Highfield square mall, then got a shuttle to the stones concert. We arrived and found out that we could have brought our little dumb cameras, we just weren’t allowed to bring large professonal type cameras. So no pics, I wish they had bloody said that on the bloody radio or something though. We soon met up with Alysson and Julie at the medical tent, then we stood in line for beer tickets but got fed up, so Julie gave Hollywood her last beer ticket. Hollywood then stood in line for a Beer for 15 mins. After that we walked to a nice spot on the hill and observed the 80,000 people there. The tragically hip played for a while, then after an hour wait the stones played. It was awesome. The size of the stage, which must have been at least 15 stories high, all covered in lights. The giant speakers were so loud that it was actually loud up where we were, in the nosebleed section. It was really awesome. They even played one or two songs that I recognized!!!
After the concert we lined up and got on a shuttle that sat around with us on it for a full hour (because the cops had “lost control of the crowd”). When we heard that statement we figured “riot” but all it meant was that people were walking in front of the bus exit and wouldn’t friggin’ stop so the busses could get out. So there was about 50 busses full of people waiting for the retards to get out of the way. Eventually we got going. When we arrived at the champlain mall we got some Wendy’s, then drove back to our place. Everybody ate then Alysson and Julie got into Julie’s SUV and they drove back to Saint John.
80,000 people is a lot. I can’t even portray how many that is. People had started to leave the stones concert about 50% of the way through it. We had stayed until about 90% of it. When the bus eventually departed there were streams of people all over the sidewalks and roads for at least 10km away from the concert. A constant, thick crowd: EVERYWHERE. It was like, christmas shopping x10 not just in a mall, but everywhere. That’s probably what it’s like every day in New York. I can’t even imagine somewhere even MORE overpopulated than the states, like china or india. Can’t imagine.
